Job Type: Full-time, permanent. Weekday hours with alternating weekends, plus nursing shifts

About the Role

Some homes are run by spreadsheet. This one is run by people who know every resident's name, their tea order and which chair they will fight you for. Our client, an independent nursing and residential home in the Surrey countryside near Reigate, is looking for a Deputy Manager (RGN) to help keep it that way.

The Deputy Manager (RGN) works alongside the Home Manager and the Clinical Lead, and is the leadership presence that holds a 24-hour operation together. Part of the week is leading, part of it is on the floor delivering nursing care yourself. The Home Manager and Clinical Lead cover the weekdays, so the Deputy Manager (RGN) provides nursing and leadership cover at weekends. Think of it as alternating weekends: every other one is yours.

The home is deliberately personal, and the owner wants to keep it that way. Protocols matter, but people come first, and you will have the autonomy to prove it.

What You Will Be Doing

As Deputy Manager (RGN), you will:

  • Support the Home Manager and Clinical Lead in leading a 24-hour care operation
  • Deliver hands-on nursing shifts, leading from the front, not from an office
  • Provide leadership and clinical cover on alternating weekends (Saturday or Sunday), with occasional out-of-hours support
  • Make sound, timely decisions when the senior team is not on site
  • Lead, support and develop the nursing and care team
  • Champion person-centred care in every shift, handover and conversation
  • Work with families, GPs and other healthcare professionals
  • Help maintain standards, documentation and inspection readiness

What You Will Need

To succeed as our client's Deputy Manager (RGN), you will have:

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with a live NMC PIN
  • Deputy Manager experience, though strong Clinical Leads and senior nurses ready to step up will be considered
  • Willingness to work nursing shifts and alternating weekends, with flexibility for the occasional out-of-hours call
  • Sound judgement and the ability to work autonomously
  • A steady career history. We like people who stay and see things through
  • A genuine interest in leadership and person-centred care, with the salary as a welcome bonus rather than the headline reason

Coming from a larger care group? You are very welcome, provided you can bring a personal touch and leave the corporate script at the door.

What You Get

This Deputy Manager (RGN) position comes with:

  • £55,000 to £60,000, depending on experience
  • Pension scheme
  • Healthcare benefit
  • Funded CPD and clear routes to progress
  • Alternating weekends, so a proper rota and a proper life outside work
  • A close-knit, values-led team in a peaceful rural setting

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. (No sponsorship available - please do not apply if you require this as your application will not be looked at)

How to Apply

If you are a Deputy Manager (RGN), or a strong Clinical Lead or senior nurse ready for the step up, send us your CV or give us a ring for a confidential chat. We will give you an honest view of whether it is the right fit, and we are always happy to talk even if the timing is not quite right.
